Strand kommune

Strand er den største kommunen i Ryfylke og er i vekst. Kommunen ligger på fastlandet ca. 2 mil nord-øst for Stavanger. Siden 2019 har til- og frareisende kunnet nyte godt av ferjefri forbindelse til Stavanger gjennom verdens lengste undersjøiske biltunnel Ryfast.

Hovedsenteret i kommunen er Jørpeland, som fikk bystatus i 1998. Her bor i overkant av 7000 mennesker. Tau er det andre senteret, med over 3000 innbyggere.

Stålverket ble etablert på Jørpeland rundt 1909 og var i mange år en svært stabil og god arbeidsplass for de fleste innbyggerne i Strand. På det meste hadde stålverket rundt 1200 ansatte. Bedriften gikk konkurs i 1978, men er siden reetablert som Stavanger Steel AS. Det er forøvrig etablert flere små mekaniske verksteder rundt i kommunen som har oppdrag fra stålverket.

Fiskå Mølle A/S på Fiskå er en annen stor industriarbeidsplass i Strand. Andre er Comrod, Vestkorn, NorStone, WestControl, Electrocompaniet, Årdal – og Tau Mekaniske Verksteder, samt Rush Engineering.

Strand kommune er også en jordbrukskommune og er størst i Norge på produksjon av juletrær.

En av Norges største turistattraksjoner Preikestolen ligger i Strand kommune.  Preikestolen ved Lysefjorden er en av Norges største turistmagneter. Over 300 000 mennesker tar turen opp og ut på Preikestolen hvert år.

Strand is the largest municipality in Ryfylke and is growing steadily. The municipality is located on the mainland approx. 20 km north-east of Stavanger. Since 2019, a ferry-free connection with Stavanger has been in place – through the world’s longest underwater car tunnel, Ryfast.

The main center in the municipality is Jørpeland, which was granted city status in 1998. More than 7,000 people live here. Tau is the second center, with over 3000 inhabitants.

The steelworks were established on Jørpeland around 1909 and was for many years a stable working place for most of the inhabitants of Strand. At most, the steelworks had around 1,200 employees. The company went bankrupt in 1978, but has since been re-established under the name Stavanger Steel AS. In addition, several small mechanical workshops have been established around the municipality that has assignments from the steelworks.

Fiskå Mølle A / S at Fiskå is another large industrial workplace in Strand. Other important industrial workplaces include Comrod,Vestkorn NorStone, WestControl, Electrocompaniet, Årdal – and Tau Mekaniske Verksted, and Rush Engineering

Strand municipality is also an agricultural municipality and is and Norway’s largest Christmas tree producer

One of Norway’s biggest tourist attractions The Pulpit Rock is in Strand. The pulpit rock by the Lysefjord is one of Norway’s biggest tourist magnets. Over 300,000 people take the trip up and out on the Pulpit Rock every year.
